Cara Romero

Stepping away from stereotypical Native American photography, Romero’s images are not only an accidental documentary of the past and now, there is also a reflection of the future.  “Unnatural” debuts for the first time in Texas and deals with the issue of climate change and the direct impact on indigenous people who are being subject to extreme weather patterns which attribute to the rising water levels. In compulsive need for content, Romero confronts the viewer with a flood and a drowning of not only in flesh, but in account of tribal identity. The content shifts from this more serious subject matter to an editorial portrait of present-day native people and pop culture.   A former Montrose resident, Cara Romero is a University of Houston graduate who currently lives and works in New Mexico.
